Reducing Costs for Schools - Multi Tenant ICT System

The Challenge

PrimaryTec was commissioned to supply, deploy and support a multi-tenanted ICT system with the aim of consolidating resource for sharing, classroom collaboration and sharing of best practice across four schools, remote access from anywhere, reducing annual costs and increasing teaching efficiencies at their varying locations across the city of Hull.

The project was split into three project areas during the initial deployment;
• Network & WAN infrastructure.
• Virtual & physical server infrastructure.
• Ongoing support services.

A network backbone was setup by creating five individual secure IP networks all with multi-site routing capabilities. The site to site connectivity was provided by Hull’s incumbent internet supplier in a non-managed setting, UTM (Smoothwall) and IPSEC management was provided by PrimaryTec. Due to the complex and resilient design of the WAN hardware infrastructure, this was built utilising KCOM’s standard 100mb fibre network (Lightstream).

A centrally (one site hosted) physical and virtual infrastructure compromises of 3 physical server nodes & SANS of which were clustered using Windows Server technologies. This clustered system provided robust and resilient access to file shares without the requirement of placing servers on the individual school sites. This multi tenanted centrally managed platform also provides domain services, 24/7/365 remote access, cloud integration and a hybrid backup solution.

Ongoing support services

Each school enrolled onto the PTOne managed service for their ongoing support services.

PTOne is our unique and all-encompassing ICT SLA solution which covers all our core services and alleviates the need for fixed support visits. Based on one annual support contract, PTOne provides faster response times, gives schools the flexibility to use whichever service they require and saves them money.

Creating a network backbone between the schools, not only saved the schools money, but added resiliency and increased security to the solution.

By consolidating virtual and physical infrastructure schools were given peace of mind not only that all data was secured and backed up regularly, but that data was accessible 24/7/365.

Deployment of the PTOne Service per school allowed each school to have autonomy on when and where their support, training and device budget was spent on an ongoing basis.
